Where did the time go? Is it too soon to talk about Christmas?

Forgive me Friends, it's been 8 months since my last post!

I've been busy treading water in the ocean of life, appreciating the adventure of it all.

After handing over all my art—yes! ALL of it!—to be displayed [for sale] at an airbnb in Margretsville, it appears that I haven't produced much art! Trust me, I'm chomping at the bit to tell some rock stories—that I can frame! Because I Have been busy producing A LOT of art.

The repertoire of stones I tell stories with has increased exponentially! So as you can imagine, every vessel that can hold rocks, is holding rocks. I've been pumping out Pep-Talk-on-a-Rock and Pep-Talk Power Pack's left, right, and centre! I've barely made a dent in my supply. So much so, that I had to do a little rock inventory [a HUGE job] and re-examine every rock I've collected, and return some to the wild. Hey, you know what? Not all stories are worth telling.

But I was Still leaving too many beautiful rocks behind!

I started drawing designs on rocks-of-familiar-shapes-but-not-suitable-for-framed-art. I'm still trying to figure out my style. My initial shapes reminded people of Haida art, and that didn't feel right, so I'm trying to develop what feels good to me. It still takes me far too long to put pen to rock, in fear I'm going to wreck it! To me, the shape and natural effects of the rock—the indents, chips, and other acts of geological wonderment, are already complete, it feels like drawing on someone else's art! Having said that, I can hardly sell people a rock that's just handed to them in the direction I need them to see it—so I draw on them, so people will buy them!

But I was Still leaving too many beautiful rocks behind!

Like big ones! I'm starting some sculptures incorporating wood and stone. That's pretty exciting. I've added a picture below of a whale body. I will add two wooden fins and a wooden whale tale. Or at least, I think I will!

All this is to say that I have a lot of really interesting and potentially unique pieces looking for new homes, and Christmas is a'comin'!

What makes my art ...relatable, is the way that people connect with it. And people connect with it because of the stories they tell. When I am working on a custom piece, it's very personal energy that brings it all together. It's like catching creativity in the wind. It just comes. It's a very thoughtful and fulfilling process. I'm very proud of them. I see people light up when they see the piece for the first time—even when it's been a collaboration and they've chosen all the pieces. Especially when it's a gift for someone else. I know that I got it right and it Feels. So. Good.

If you, or someone you know, is looking for something really different for a Christmas gift this year, let's talk, and now is the time! I need time. I've been collecting tiny orange rocks from several beaches for months and I still don't have the perfect cat paw!

What I do have are lots East Coast-themed (lighthouses, seals, ships) and woodsy-themed (bears, birds) as potential subjects. I love custom work, it's the best energy and the best stories.  I have big rocks, little rocks, pretty rocks, amazing rocks, and definite one-of-a-kind rocks—all looking to be united with their humans!
