Welcome to LaurieRocks

Hi! I'm Laurie. It wasn't until I moved from Ontario out west to Tappen BC that I even noticed rocks! Once I took notice, I couldn't stop. Previously living in the foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, and now living along the shores of Nova Scotia, I've found the most amazing rocks and bits of nature. I love sharing the stories that come to me when I look at them.

Every stick and stone is designed by nature and assembled by me. Some tell their story all on their own with their familiar shapes. Others become a Pep-Talk-on-a-Rock. I have been known to draw on the odd one, and sometimes I might spray them to bring out the wet look or protect them, but they are as I have found them in nature.

I love the challenge of capturing a particular theme or family, so if you're looking for a truly unique custom-made piece of Canadian artwork, let's talk!

I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

All sticks and stones are acquired legally (not from National Parks or restricted areas) and they're baked/boiled to allow for safe, legal transport from province to province or across Canada's borders.

The stories behind the stories. Visit my blog, Sticks and Stones

Very early on it became clear that it's the stories that sell my art! Rocks are cool and all, but it's stories that reach the heart and make the piece special.

My first pieces didn't come with stories. I was just creating them to get rid of some rocks so Mike would let me bring more home. And people were buying them. People were asking if I'd be interested in donating to their silent auction. And people bid on them. A Lot!

This was great and all, but I really felt like people were missing out on the story. When I pick up a rock and admire it, most of the time, a story is narrated in my head. I have to share these.

Every piece has a story. Some have two stories and once, I made a simple sail boat that ended up with three stories! One for the piece, one for the purchaser, and one about the recipient and what his new piece of artwork meant to him. That's a great story!

Please, spend some of your precious time reading my blog! They're short stories (ish), I like to tell stories, and people tell me they like to read my stories. I'd love for you to leave a comment, if you've got one, and if you share it with your friends, well, that would be so kind of you.
